Welcome to It’s Not Them, It’s You..and that’s where the magic happens.
If you’ve found your way here, welcome.
For over 25 years, I worked as a Special Education Specialist, sitting beside families as they navigated some of the most challenging moments of raising a teenager. Today, as an Educational Strategist~Family Advocate~Workplace Family Support Consultant and of course Podcaster, I continue to have those conversations every day.
What I’ve learned is this:
Most parents come looking for answers about their teen.
How do I get them to listen?
How do I motivate them?
How do I stop the conflict?
How do I help them succeed?
Those are important questions.
But over and over again, I’ve discovered that the greatest transformation doesn’t happen when we change our teen.
It happens when we become curious about ourselves.
That’s where the title of this publication comes from:
It’s Not Them, It’s You... and That’s Where the Magic Happens.
Before you close this page and decide I’ve lost my mind, hear me out.
This isn’t about blame.
It’s about possibility.
Because the moment we stop trying to control everything outside of us and start looking inward, something powerful happens. We communicate differently. We listen differently. We show up differently. And often, our relationships begin to change in ways we never thought possible.
This space will be part parenting, part personal growth, and part honest reflection on what it means to navigate life’s transitions with courage and authenticity.
Here you’ll find:
Insights from over two decades working with neurodivergent teens and their families
Reflections inspired by conversations from my podcast
Practical guidance for parents navigating school systems, diagnoses, and advocacy
Stories about growth, reinvention, and the lessons life continues to teach me
Occasional reminders that none of us are meant to figure this all out alone
You don’t have to be parenting a teenager to belong here.
If you’re navigating change, questioning old stories, seeking deeper connection, or trying to come home to who you truly are, you’ll likely find something here for you too.
I’ll be sharing new posts weekly.
My hope is that this becomes more than a newsletter.
I hope it becomes a community of curious, courageous people willing to ask better questions, challenge old assumptions, and create meaningful change from the inside out.
Thank you for being here at the beginning.
I’m glad you found your way.
